Two teams seemingly charging in opposing directions will be meeting in the Week 15 TNF game at Seattle’s Lumen Field. The San Francisco 49ers (9-4, 8-5 ATS) have won their last five games. Their NFC West rivals the Seattle Seahawks (7-6, 6-7 ATS) are stumbling along at 1-3 through the past four games.

However, when the 49ers make the journey to the land of Starbucks and grunge music, it hasn’t proven to be nirvana for them. Seattle has won 10 of the last 11 times that the Seahawks were playing host to the 49ers.

Oddsmakers, though, are not at all impressed by past history. They are going with the division-leading 49ers as 3-point road favorites in this game.

Not only is Seattle a straight up home powerhouse when facing the 49ers, the Seahawks are also a betting dynamo at home against San Francisco. The Seahawks are 12-2 against the spread in the past 14 home games facing the Niners.

Currently, however, Seattle is 0-4 ATS in the club’s past four games. San Francisco is 5-1 ATS in the last six games. At home, Seattle is just 3-3 ATS. Only three NFL teams have proven to be a better ATS bet this season than the 8-5 49ers.

Like the oddsmakers, the people aren’t students of history. The NFL public betting trends are displaying stalwart support for San Francisco. The 49ers are getting 55% of handle and 73% of bets in the spread betting splits. Turning to the moneyline splits, it’s also all San Fran. There’s 69% of handle and 78% bets backing the 49ers.

Public bettors are divided when it comes to the total. The under is garnering 55% of the handle. But it’s the over drawing 64% of bets. Five of the last seven 49ers games have gone over. In the case of Seattle, four of the past five Seahawks games also hit on the over.

The 49ers are the +800 co-fourth betting choice in the Super Bowl odds. A San Francisco victory in this game would clinch the NFC West title.

An interesting QB showdown

Logically, seeing that a team was down to QB3 on their depth chart would lead a bettor to be liking the other team. However, when 49ers third-string QB Brock Purdy made his first NFL start last week, all he did was out duel The Goat. Purdy led the 49ers to a 35-7 rout of seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

When the Seahawks dealt longtime starter Russell Wilson to Denver in the offseason, it was expected that Drew Lock, the Broncos QB coming the other way in the trade, would be Seattle’s QB1. Instead, journeyman veteran Geno Smith won the job and earlier in the season, he was also winning the day.

Lately, though, Smith is beginning to display why he’s been a career backup. Four of the eight interceptions he’s thrown this season have been picked off in the past three games.

San Francisco vs. Seattle injury report

There’s some big names factoring in the injury reports filed by both teams. Starting with the 49ers, wide receiver Deebo Samuel (ankle) and starting left defensive tackle Kevin Givens (knee) are out. Purdy (oblique, ribs), running back Christian McCaffrey (knee), and RDT Aric Armstead (foot) are listed as questionable.

Last week, the Seahawks played minus rookie running back sensation Kenneth Walker III (ankle) and his absence was duly noted. Seattle gained just 46 yards on the ground. The good news for the Seahawks is that Walker is back at practice this week and without an injury designation. He’s rushed for 649 yards and nine touchdowns this season.

49ers vs. Seahawks pick

San Francisco’s recipe for success in Purdy’s first start also happens to be the recent path to disaster for the Seahawks. The 49ers relied on a run-first mentality against the Buccaneers. McCaffrey rambled for 119 yards and a TD on just 14 carries.

In Seattle’s home-field loss to the Carolina Panthers, the Panthers ran for 223 yards. When San Francisco posted an early-season triumph over the Seahawks, the Niners gained 189 yards on the ground. And that was before they’d acquired McCaffrey.

Still, it’s difficult to ignore a home team getting points, especially one as dominant as a home team against the opposition as the Seahawks have been when facing the 49ers.

Seattle is currently the #8 seed in the NFC. The Seahawks need to start winning to regain relevance in the playoff picture. They have to win this game. Oh, and by the way, the Seahawks are 2-0 ATS this season as a home underdog.

Pick: Seattle Seahawks +3.
