The former Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach was released from the hospital Thursday, nine days after receiving his new heart.

Wyche was just days away from being sent to hospice before a donor match was found.

The 71-year-old Wyche coached the Bengals from 1984-91, leading the team to their second Super Bowl appearance in 1988. Wyche, who was 84-107 as an NFL coach, later led the Buccaneers in four losing seasons.
Wyche also spent nine seasons as an NFL quarterback, and is credited with introducing the no-huddle offense to the league. He last coached in the NFL as the Buffalo Bills quarterbacks coach for 2004-05 seasons.
