Villas-Boas felt reporters from the Daily Mail had treated him unfairly in some of their articles last week and Allardyce thinks that the Tottenham manager was ‘immature’ for lashing out at the reporters.

He told talkSPORT: “You have to use the criticism as a motivational drive to show these people that they are wrong. You’ve got to take it on the chin.

“You, and your players, have got to do your talking on the field. I think he’s just showed a little bit of immaturity.

“It can get under your skin, but you can’t let that happen because you’re not going to win.”

Tottenham fought back from a humiliating 6-0 defeat to Manchester City last week to draw 2-2 with United. Kyle Walker gave Spurs the lead but Wayne Rooney soon poked in the equaliser. Sandro then lashed in a 25-yard thunderbolt to give the north Londoners the lead for a second time but that was short-lived as Rooney scored from the penalty spot to equalise for the second time.

Despite spending over £100 million on new players in the summer, Spurs have scored just seven goals from open play in 13 Premier League matches this season.
